The J&B Met

Traditionally held on the last Saturday in January, the J&B Met is South Africa’s oldest horse race and Cape Town’s largest outdoor social event. The event has become a huge income generator for the Western Cape and a boost for the fashion industry. Over 50 000 fashionable movers and shakers converge on the Kenilworth Racecourse for a day at the races. Eddy Cassar Public Relations has handled all the publicity for the J&B Met since 1995. The Cape Argus Lifecycle Expo

Started in 1992, the Cycle Tour Expo has become South Africa’s largest health, cycle and fitness exhibition. Held as the only registration point for the participants of the famous 109km Cycle Tour which is held on the second Sunday in March, the expo attracts over 350 exhibitors and close on
80 000 visitors.

Taste of Cape Town

The Taste of Cape Town is an amazing four-day celebration of fine food and drink, set on the prestigious sports fields of Camps Bay High School, over looking Camps Bay beach with sweeping views of the Twelve Apostles. The new major event, which will become an annual event, is set to become a favourite among Capetonians. From the 3-6 April, sixteen of Cape Town’s top restaurants and chefs will serve a stunning collection of sample sized signature dishes to Taste of Cape Town visitors. Read more

The Old Mutual Comedy Encounters

The Old Mutual Comedy Encounters is an extension of the Old Mutual Encounters Arts sponsorship, is strategically linked to their sponsorship of the Two Oceans Marathon. Held at the Baxter Theatre, the festival celebrates the best local stand-up comedy has to offer. Further information can be obtained on www.encountersfestival.co.za. The Vodacom Funny Festival

Eddy Cassar founded the Smirnoff Comedy festival in 1997 and once Smirnoff ceased their sponsorship the company created the Vodacom Funny festival.

The Vodacom Funny Festival is Cape Town’s flagship stand-up comedy festival. Divided into three sections the festival embraces eight university campuses in the region, three township performances and a three-week run at the 600-seater Baxter Theatre. It interacts with +-25 000 people during its run.

The Vodacom Comedy Campus Tour runs in May each year and visits university campuses in and around Cape Town. The free shows are held in the student cafeteria at lunchtime and draw an audience of up to
4 000 per venue.


The Vodacom Comedy Township Tour is held on three consecutive Sundays during the Funny Festival at the popular outdoor restaurant Mzoli’s Place in Gugulethu.

The Vodacom Funny Festival showcases the best local and international stand-up comedy at the Baxter Theatre. The festival runs for three weeks and plays to capacity audiences.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is the world’s premier film festival on mountain climbing, expeditions, remote cultures and the world’s last wild cultures. The Festival, named after the Canadian university town in Alberta, began an outreach program in 1986, bringing the festival to communities throughout the world. Today the film festival highlights the work and talents of the world’s finest mountain filmmakers and is shown in 30 countries.

The project is presented by the country’s leading outdoor retailers, Cape Union Mart and is held in Cape Town and Johannesburg in August each year. Eddy Cassar Public Relations produce and market the Festival in South Africa.

The FNB Whisky Live Festival in association with the Cape Times

South Africa’s internationally aligned whisky festival, the First National Bank Whisky Live Festival, takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre each October.

Since inception in 2003, the FNB Whisky Live Festivals have become one of the important showcases for the drink in an emergent market. More and more smaller distillers from Scotland, Ireland, the US and Canada have watched the growth of the Festival with interest and are eager to enter the South African market.

The event has become an annual pilgrimage for 7 000 Capetonians, who get to taste and experience their brand of choice and exchange information from brand and global ambassadors. Visit www.whiskylivefestival.co.za for more information.

The Discovery Cape Times Big Walk

South Africa’s oldest mass participation sporting event, the Cape Times Big Walk, takes place on the second Sunday of November each year. The event, first held in 1903, attracts tens of thousands of Capetonians walking different routes for charity. Over the years new routes and distances have been added and this year eight walks make up the event.

The Cape Times Big Walk has become the biggest timed walk in the world and ranks as the second oldest mass sporting event, second only to the Tour de France. Eddy Cassar Public Relations plan and manage the media relations and publicity of the event.
